Our Dufour Grand Large 382, Makai, is a great yacht for weekly sailing charter for smaller groups, or individuals that are new to sailing.

Built in 2017, Makai’s sleek and modern yacht design takes advantage of every bit of space in the boat, while maximizing comfort.

Three double cabins and a convertible berth in the saloon allow 7 people to be cozy, yet comfortable at night.

The head has a full shower unit and ingenious design to make every nook functional. An L-shaped galley provides enough space to be able to prepare that delicious meal, store your provisioning and keep those beverages cold.

The modern design of this charter sailboat also extends above deck. Its sails and running rigging are set up to make maneuvering this charter boat easy. In fact, the self-tacking foresail makes tacking and jibing straightforward and can be done single-handedly.

In addition to its easy maneuverability, its 36-foot length and relatively narrow beam make every Marina berth in the Algarve spacious.

The Southern coast of Portugal has a selection of marinas all within a short day’s sail from each other so you can take your time under sail without the worry of running out of light before the next destination.

Moreover, all our marinas in the Algarve have private bathroom facilities, as well as electricity and fresh water at each berth.

If you so choose, you can also enjoy your meals on land as some of the best restaurants in the Algarve, for fresh seafood and other Portuguese delicacies, will be within sight of your yacht’s berth.

On the other hand, if you would also like a couple nights of your charter in Southern Portugal on anchor, the less than 2 meter draft and compact size of the boat make anchoring in the many beautiful and protected anchorage stress-free.

If this is your first charter as a skipper, or are a bit rusty, you can also hire one of our internationally trained skippers for your first day, a couple days, or for your whole charter. They can introduce you to the boat and show you which line is which as well as review different skills like anchoring, advanced knots and marina maneuvering.

Meeting point

Check-in for this sailing charter in the Algarve is usually done at the Portiate Charters office at Marina de Portimão.

However, we can also meet you at other Marinas in the area, like Vilamoura or Lagos, at your convenience.

Restrictions

If renting without a skipper, you must show a valid boating licence and matching identification.

This boat has not been adapted to be wheelchair accessible.

Bareboat or Skippered

Our weekly sailing charter boats can be rented with or without a skipper and/or hostess. To rent a sailboat without a skipper, you need a valid boating license and a charter period of three days of longer. Along with a valid boating certificate for the type of boat being chartered and waters navigated, valid identification such as a Passport or National ID Card must be presented.

When you hire a bareboat charter, you will be briefed on where you can navigate and about the boat itself (systems and equipment). Most importantly, we’ll share all of the best locations for anchoring and famous landmarks to see. We’ll also brief you on hazards to avoid, and the wind and waves that you can expect, etc…

If you decide you prefer to rent the boat with a skipper, you’ll be accompanied by one of our skippers who’ll take care of driving the boat and will introduce you to the must-see spots of the coastline of the Algarve. In that case, you might want to check out our day trips).

Booking & Cancelation

To book one of our motor boat rentals in the Algarve we ask for a 50% down payment. This can be done either by bank transfer or via Paypal. The final payment can be done on the day of your rental at our office at the Marina de Portimão. We accept cash, credit, or debit card.

Don’t forget that motor boat rentals in the Algarve require a security deposit (500 Euro) which can be paid in cash or card. This deposit will be returned at the end of the charter, in full, as long as the boat and all equipment on it are returned in the same conditions that they were in when taken.

Regarding our cancelation policy for the motor boat rentals, if you would like to cancel the booking up to one month before the rental date, the booking fee will be returned minus 50 Euro. For cancelations within one month of the rental, the booking fee will not be returned. However, cancelations due to governmental travel bans or restrictions will be refunded in full (i.e.: Covid-19 restrictions).
